Welcome to the Falling Star RanchTraining, Lessons, Clinics, Camps
Equestrian Vaulting ClinicsWelcome to the spectacular art and sport of Equestrian Vaulting! The art and sport of gymnastics and dance on horseback
Vaulting is the performance of gymnastic and dance-like movements to music on a moving horse. Like many equestrian sports today, vaulting began in the military where it developed in Germany in the late 18th century to help soldiers improve their riding skills. Today vaulting is a world-class sport with local, national and international competitions. The vaulting horse is controlled by a lunger who sends him in a circle around them on the end of a lunge line which is attached to the bridle the horse wears on his head. The horse also wears a special surcingle around his belly which has hand grips and stirrup-like loops for the vaulter's feet. Beginner vaulters start by learning simple moves at the walk, then trot and progress to be able to execute fantastic freestyle performances at the canter as they gain ability and confidence. Vaulters learn to have the agility and athleticism of gymnasts, the grace, elegance and expression of dancers, and the balance and feel of equestrians. Vaulting is the most natural and playful means of acquainting children to the horse. Children learn balance and develop strength and harmony with the horse. By improving their skill level they develop confidence and a healthy sense of self-esteem. Willingness, co-operation and sportsmanship are also essential ingredients in the sport of vaulting. Previous riding and/or gymnastic experience is not required. Students are expected to help groom and tack up the vaulting horse before the session, as well as cool and untack the horse and clean its tack after the session. It is important that they learn the responsibility and respect to the horse that comes with this sport. Date and TimeCheck our Events Page for dates. Who can join?Children 7 to 14 years old.
